Rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatic diseases are disorders of connective tissue, especially the joints and related structures, characterized by inflammation, degeneration or metabolic derangement.

They are attended by pain, stiffness, or limitation of motion of these parts. Rheumatism confined to the joints is classified as arthritis.

In inflammatory rheumatic diseases, autoimmune events are part of the pathogenesis.

It is important to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis early because only early diagnosis and immediate treatment inhibits irreversible damage caused by the progressive disease.
